Cuckoo's Bakery

Cuckoo's Bakery opened on Valentine's day of this year and has since become a talking point in the city. With a lunch menu available daily, and cupcakes to die for, this place is a must visit for all ages.

All the interior is locally sourced, and through the careful use of subtle tones in the tearoom, you are welcomed with a warmth that will make you want to stay for the day.

Each cupcake is made fresh every day. The bakers are on site from 4am every morning, to ensure freshness and to create their little drops of heaven. The frosting is hand crafted using a palette knife rather than piping from a bag, to create each unique cupcake.

There is a selection of their freshly baked cupcakes pictured below...

There is a home delivery service available, and a 10% discount on cupcakes to those who return to Cuckoo's Bakery with the empty box, in an attempt to do their bit for the environment. Home deliveries are done by push bike, by an environmentally friendly courier.

Ten Things That...Drive Me Up The Wall In A Bar.....

Here is a list of things in everyday life that annoy me.....

1. Customers who take forever to remember their order.
2. People in bars/clubs who insist on turning their shot glass upside down on the bar when they have finished.
3. Those people who have to use all the salt (even though you don't need it) when shooting Tequila, and spread it all over the bar top.
4. The clowns on the dancefloor that think they have moves....(Be nice!)
5. Morons who seem to forget that the mirrorball on the ceiling is not a pinata.
6. The annoying girl at the bar who tries to queue jump, and then is disappointed when she doesn't get served next.
7. The tools that think it's clever to order a drink, forget not to ask for no ice, then take the ice out of their glass and dispose of it on the floor....I want to slap them.
8. There's always one person that thinks the 'No Service In This Area' rule, doesn't apply to them.
9. The young students who cannot add £1.50 and £1.50....
10. And finally....the complete and utter fools, that get to the bar, order their drinks, and seem to forget that they need to pay for them using money - Total time wasters!

Scoopz Wham Bar Milkshake

Who would have thought, that a Wham Bar, and freshly made ice cream, would go hand in hand to create a spectacular fusion?

Scoopz has made this possible by experimenting at great lengths. They have many flavours and ideas that make milkshakes so much more enjoyable and a refreshing change from the usual suspects.

A small shake will cost £2.70 and a large is £3.20 - well worth it!

Topped with whipped cream, the Wham Bar milkshake is a taste sensation that brings back memories of childhood. A must for any fan of milkshake or retro candy.

Domino's Firenze Gourmet Pizza

This latest offering from Domino's Pizza, gives the chain a new and improved menu that was already bursting at the seams with delicious pies.

The Gourmet Range offers three new flavour combinations - Firenze, Florentine and Rustica. For this review, I selected the Firenze.

With lashings of Ventricina Salami, Pepperoni, and Peruvian Roquito peppers, the anticipation of flavours is more than enough to get the juices flowing.

On arrival, the aroma on lifting the lid was spectacular. The Firenze was exceptional. The sweetness of the peppers, was followed by a lovely heat that was perfectly balanced in time with the salami and pepperoni. Each mouthful was very moreish, and the satisfaction on eating the last slice coincided with a slight sadness that the box box was empty.

The Firenze clearly portrays Domino's hunger for quality and satisfaction to all their customers.

A quick thank you to Tanya and Gordon at Domino's Pizza for helping us out by providing the pizza for this review.

Burgh Bakes - Homemade Gourmet Marshmallows

This morning whilst checking my Twitter feed, I happened to notice that I had an interesting new follower - @burghbakes

By total coincidence, I was in Lickety Splits inquiring about their Re-Launch party on Friday of last week - which I might add, was a tremendous success. Upon perusing some of the many new products they have to offer, I was recommended homemade marshmallows, which (as luck would have it)  turned out to be none other, than the a fore mentioned Burgh Bakes.

After several minutes of contemplation, I decided that Millionaires Shortbread marshmallows was a good place to start. Having opened the packet, I was hit with an aroma that instantly had my taste buds  tingling with anticipation.

With its delicate shortbread base, and luxuriously light mallow middle, topped with a sensational chocolate drizzle, this was a delight of the highest quality. For £3.60, per 100g, I can honestly say, that these sumptuous bite-size treats are well worth the money and certainly worth the trip to Lickety Splits.

Win A Fantastic Night Out

It's that time again.

Over the next week, I'd like some suggestions of bars, clubs, and pubs, that you think should be in Edinburgh's Top 10 socialising spots. Whether it be, a small quaint bar in the suburbs, or a busy nightclub in the city centre, I'd like you to tell me where to go for an evening/night out, and I'll take two lucky people with me On a night out at the end of the month of September.

The winners of this fantastic night out will be the people that suggest the best places to go in The City of Edinburgh, and this will be decided, based on three things...

1. Location
2. Value for money
3. General entertainment

It's as easy as that, so get voting!!!

Scoopz Ice Cream Parlour

Opening only a matter of weeks ago, Scoopz Ice Cream is certainly a rival to the long standing S. Luca's that has dominated the city's love of frozen treats.

The shop is located on West Nicolson Street, only a matter of yards from the very popular Red Box Noodle Bar, and in the centre of the Edinburgh University community. With this in mind, the shop offers a unique collection of ice creams, milkshakes and waffles that will have you wanting more.

My selection this afternoon, combined the rather exciting Scottish Tablet, Kinder (Chocolate), and Oreo Biscuit in a large tub that cost £3, with smaller tubs and multiple sizes of cones available and many more flavours. From Vanilla, to Irn Bru, Lemon sorbet and Puff Candy, the list goes on and on.

Location is everything in this day and age, and I see great things to come for this local business. With iPads to be available on every table and interactive menus, this establishment is going to be the hottest place in town. Definitely a must for ice cream aficionados.

Lickety Splits Re-Opening

As reviewed before, Lickety Splits is the premier confectionery and candy stockists in Edinburgh. The shop has recently been taken over, and the new owners have good solid ideas that will have people flocking for miles to sample the delights of sugar coated heaven.

This Friday, the store is having a re-launch party with bubbly and plenty of candy. They will also be showing off their new and exclusive range of Danish salt liquorice, that will get your taste buds tingling. I had a sneaky sample this afternoon, and I can say that is definitely worth a look!
